Israel Brain Technologies (IBT)
Entity: IBT
Project Type: Non-Core
Duration of Support: 1 year (2014)
Understanding the brain is one of humanity's biggest challenges, as it may lead to solving bigger worldwide problems. Israel Brain Technologies aims to accelerate Israel's brain technology cluster, to bring solutions faster to those in need.
Brain disorders affect more than one billion people worldwide, costing society trillions of dollars. Despite endless research, solutions have not yet been found, and disorders such as Alzheimer, Parkinson, ALS and Schizophrenia remain for the most part, incurable. We are controlled by our brain, yet we do not understand it.
In 2011, Israeli President Shimon Peres released a call for action to set up a non-profit organization to support brain research in Israel. Inspired by Peres' vision, Israel Brain Technologies aims to accelerate Israel's brain technology cluster, to bring solutions faster to those in need. IBT is led by seasoned life science and technology industry professionals, and advised by distinguished local and international scientific boards.
IBT's functions as a knowledge hub for those who seek to learn, support and partner with the Israeli neurotech ecosystem. It brings together all stakeholder groups involved in advancing brain technologies; recruits government/private funding; promotes a brain agenda on a national, cross-sector level; and addresses the translational valley of death, through innovative programming to accelerate R&D.
