Joint Ventures for Peace
Entity: NISPED – Negev Institute for Strategies of Peace and Developments
Project Type: Core
Duration of Support: 1 year (2010)
Joint Ventures for Peace brings together Israeli and Palestinian businesswomen, to co-design, co-produce and co-market their goods. Given the lack of progress in the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, JVP endeavors are revolutionary and courageous
22 Palestinian and 15 Israeli businesswomen joined together to create products for peace. This exciting enterprise brings together women from the West Bank and from Israel to co-design, co-produce and co-market their goods. These women, peace-builders in the truest sense, are working together as equal partners to advance partnerships and peace between Israelis and Palestinians through joint business ventures.
Given the terrible relations between Israelis and Palestinians, and the stagnation in the peace process, this project is groundbreaking and courageous. NISPED cooperated with the Shorouq Society for Women in organizing this undertaking which is a concrete, grassroots project that empowers women, fosters peace and economic growth.
The women met together in two intensive seminars in Beer Sheva and in Beit Jala, in which they began to know one another – not only as entrepreneurs – but as women and as friends. NISPED also provided business consultation to help the women refine their products ideas, calculate costs, focus on specific needs, and coordinate their business partnership so that they can begin getting their products off the ground.
The grant provided funds for turning the creative plans into reality, building and administering the Joint Ventures for Peace website, and seed money for the production and marketing of joint peace products.
